WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. 2 Daniel Hoffer expanded his leadership role this season on the Archbishop Stepinac High School varsity football team.

Hoffer made sure he was a leader, by example, on and off the field working with the younger players on anything they came to him with. Hoffer2s presence resulted in the younger players maturing into contributors for the Crusaders.

Hoffer3s exemplary play and leadership has earned him the White Plains Daily Voice Student Athlete of the Month.

3We had a young team this year so I wanted to be a leader by action,2 said Hoffer, a Yonkers resident and two-year starter at quarterback. 2I worked with the younger guys, every day, pushing them to work as hard as they could.

3We had a lot of sophomores on offense so I worked with them, as well as some of the juniors. If they had trouble running a route or with a play, I went over it with them. I wanted them to understand it and be a good coach in their eyes.2

Not only did Hoffer work with them, he made sure he got to know his teammates.

3I wanted to be social and have great communication with them,2 Hoffer said.

As a result of Hoffer2s work with the underclassmen, they showed tremendous potential and contributed to the team2s success.

3It feels great to know that they put in the time and the effort,2 said Hoffer, who plans on playing in college and will major in business. 2It9s also great to know that they are succeeding and will take the program to the next level.2

Hoffer sent Stepinac on this next step with a thrilling win over White Plains in the Turkey Bowl game. Hoffer rallied the Crusaders2 from an 18-point deficit in the second half. He capped it with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Chrystian Lopez for the winning score with 32.5 seconds remaining in the game.

3I was happy to be a part of it and happy to do it with the guys on the field.2 Hoffer said. 2It9s a game I am going to remember for the rest of my life.2
